Media and information literacy is more than just being able to find and evaluate information. It is also about being able to understand how our own emotions and biases can affect the way we process information. In this session, we will explore how social-emotional learning (SEL) can help students become more critical thinkers and better consumers of information.
By the end of this session, you will:
know about five specific types of misinformation that show up in our media landscape today.
understand how media is designed to trigger emotion.
have a better understanding of how SEL can be integrated into information literacy instruction.
participate in sample activities and access additional resources that can be used in the classroom.
